Australia

It’s been a long while since either of us blogged here so here is the first of what will be regular updates on the photographic progress I am making with the project. In September myself and Mark set off down under, traveling through the interior of Australia’s Queensland we had some fantastic encounters with many of the avian stars of our book. These included Emu’s a magical Sulphur-crested Cockatoo roost that was a photographic highlight for me, plus some great encounters with Cassowary’s, bowerbirds and riflebirds to name just three. The Satin Bowerbird below brings a pen to adorn its bower.

The image below has to be one of the best pieces of rock art I have encountered anywhere. Located at Caernarvon Gorge it shows Emu footprints which was a motif of the Aboriginal tribe that lived here and dates back 2000 years.

We also discovered why the Australian Magpie has such a fearsome reputation when one repeatedly attacked us alongside the main highway through Charter Towers.
